Dental Implants Rated Higher than Dentures and False Teeth
Women with osteoporosis found higher qualities of life with dental implants than other options such as dentures and false teeth, according to recent research. The study focused on satisfaction with the work, health, emotional and sexual aspects of the women's lives.
Dental implants were the leader in terms of overall satisfaction. Lower ratings were reported by women who used fixed dentures, followed by women with false teeth, and finally women that had no dental restoration.
In addition to the overall ranking, women with dental implants also had the highest satisfaction ratings in the emotional and sexual aspects of their lives.
This was one of the first studies to look at the quality of life in women with osteoporosis after treatment to replace missing teeth. Researchers suggested that knowing the outcomes for satisfaction in the work, health, emotional and sexual aspects of a patient's life can be as important as that of their chewing function.
The study was published in the Journal of International Dentistry.
